CA Final Law Pendrive Classes: What to Check Before You Buy

CA Final law pendrive classes are recorded lectures that a coaching institute sends you on a USB drive, usually with printed notes, and that normally play only in its own player software. Since ICAI's New Scheme, corporate and economic law has not been a CA Final exam paper: it is the compulsory online module SET A, Corporate and Economic Laws, a 100-mark test you must clear with 50% before you can sit the Final exam, and it is examined again within Paper 6, Integrated Business Solutions (ICAI FAQs, Q 4.3, Q 4.5, Q 7.2, Q 7.7). So a law pendrive is worth buying only if it was recorded for SET A and keeps up with the amendments ICAI lists for your exam; one made for the old Paper 4 is out of date.

Key points

  • A course recorded for the old Paper 4 teaches topics SET A no longer lists, such as the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, and has no chapter on e-filing.
  • For Paper 6 in November 2026, ICAI's law inputs are the September 2025 SET A study material plus the amendments made up to 30 April 2026.
  • ICAI already gives Final students SET A e-books, printed study material and video lectures, with no separate fee to register for the modules.

How pendrive classes work

The institute copies its recorded lectures onto a USB drive and couriers it to you, often in the same parcel as its books. The video files are usually encrypted: they open only in the institute's player, which you install and activate, typically on a laptop or desktop. Institutes often sell the same lectures as downloads or Google Drive links as well.

Player questions (supported devices, whether the licence is locked to one computer, limits on views or validity, what happens if the drive fails) apply to every course, and our CMA pendrive classes guide sets them out. For CA Final law, add three of your own:

  • Access period. You study law for two separate assessments: the SET A test, which comes before the Final exam, and Paper 6 in the exam. Make sure access lasts until you have passed Paper 6, with room for a second attempt.
  • Updates. Ask whether amendments made after the recording reach you as update lectures, notes or a fresh drive.
  • Language. ICAI's SET A study material comes in English and, on a separate page, in Hindi; check that the lectures are in the language you study in.

Books and home delivery

Ask whether the books that come with a pendrive are printed or PDF, how long delivery takes and who pays for it. For the basic text you may not need them: once you register for the Final course, ICAI emails you a login for ordering the Final, SET A and SET B study material through its CDS portal, and the SET A and SET B material is available in print as well as in e-books (ICAI FAQs, Q 4.4 and Q 7.5).

What a law course must cover

ICAI's syllabus splits SET A's 100 marks across three areas. Part I, Corporate Laws, covers Company Law and Securities Laws; Part II is Economic Laws (Self-Paced Online Modules syllabus, 2023):

Area Marks Main content
Company Law 50 Companies Act, 2013 and its Rules from section 149 onwards, from directors to the National Company Law Tribunal, plus a chapter on e-filing
Securities Laws 20 SEBI Act, 1992, with the LODR (2015), ICDR (2018), SAST (2011) and PIT (2015) Regulations
Economic Laws 30 Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999; Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010; Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (significant concepts up to section 33)

Our CA Final law guide goes through every chapter, ICAI's free study material and the rules of the SET A test.

Teaching should also fit the way law is examined. ICAI's prospectus says the SET A test is taken online and made up of multiple-choice questions set on case scenarios; its model test paper is a 3-hour, 100-mark paper of 2-mark questions. Paper 6 is open book and entirely case-study based, mixing Corporate and Economic Laws with Final Papers 1 to 5 and SET B, Strategic Cost & Performance Management (ICAI FAQs, Q 4.8; ICAI Prospectus). A good law course therefore includes case-scenario MCQ practice for the test and integrated case studies for Paper 6.

Courses recorded for the old Paper 4

Be careful with older recordings, including second-hand pendrives. Under the previous scheme, law was taught for Paper 4: Corporate and Economic Laws, a three-hour, 100-mark paper, and Economic Laws was also Paper 6D, one of six Paper 6 options (ICAI Final syllabus, 2021). Lectures with chapters on producer companies, companies incorporated outside India, drafting of notices, resolutions and minutes, money laundering (PMLA, 2002) or the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 were made for that syllabus. SET A has none of these chapters, though it still covers investigating foreign companies and mergers with foreign companies; arbitration is now a separate SET C elective. SET A also adds a chapter on e-filing.

Amendments for your exam

The current English SET A study material is the September 2025 edition, with amendments up to 31 August 2025 (Module 1, initial pages). For Paper 6 in November 2026, ICAI's Board of Studies prescribes that edition "along with amendments relevant for November 2026 Examination", and its amendment list runs to 30 April 2026. Ask which edition the lectures follow and how later changes are covered.

When you will use a law course

The SET A test is booked and taken on ICAI's Self-paced Module Test (SPMT) portal once you have completed the learning hours ICAI prescribes for the module (ICAI requirements notice for the November 2026 exams, July 2026). ICAI says its SET A video lectures are available (FAQs, Q 7.5). Its prospectus says module lectures are provided, and learning is monitored, through its Digital Learning Hub, and the BoS Knowledge Portal now links to the 'ICAI Digital Learning Campus for Self-Paced Online Module' for module learning. Buying a pendrive does not change the requirement. The pass mark is 50%, with unlimited attempts (FAQs, Q 7.7).

Plan your course around the deadline for your attempt. For November 2026, students admitted to the Final exam from November 2024 onwards must clear their modules by 10 October 2026 (requirements notice). From May 2026 the Final exam is held twice a year, in May and November (ICAI announcement, 6 April 2026), so look up the requirements notice for your own attempt. Students admitted to the Final exam up to May 2024 follow different rules; see the rules for old-syllabus students.

CA Final DT pendrive classes

A DT pendrive is a different course: direct tax is Final Paper 4, Direct Tax Laws & International Taxation, an exam paper rather than a module (ICAI FAQs, Q 4.3). ICAI's Board of Studies prescribes the September 2025 study material for Paper 4 in November 2026, plus the RTP and judicial updates for that exam, so ask which edition DT lectures follow.

Pendrive, online or live classes

You can get recorded lectures on a drive, as files to download or as a stream, or join live classes on a fixed timetable. The CMA guide linked above compares these formats, and the trade-offs are the same for CA.

For SET A, start with ICAI's own material, which every Final student gets: registering for the Final course registers you for the modules at no extra fee, and ICAI provides the study material as e-books and in print, plus video lectures (ICAI FAQs, Q 7.3 and Q 7.5). In our view, a pendrive is worth adding if you want a teacher's explanations that you can replay offline.

Advantages and limits of pendrive classes

  • Offline study: once the player is set up, you usually do not need a steady internet connection.
  • Replay: you can rewatch a hard topic, such as winding up or the insolvency resolution process, until it makes sense.
  • Your own schedule: you choose when to study, early in the morning or late at night.
  • Limits: there is no live doubt-solving unless the institute adds it, the player may be tied to one device, and recordings date as the law changes. That matters for SET A, because ICAI posts lists of relevant amendments on its Self-Paced Online Modules page.
