ICAI Articleship Exam: Everything You Need To Know

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has introduced an articleship exam that is mandatory for every student pursuing their articleship. This exam is known as articleship assessment test. It has to be taken after completing your 1st year of articleship and after completing your 2nd year of articleship. The articleship exam is held in the month of september but the dates are sometimes delayed till December. 

It is a self-assessment test. CA aspirants can test how much knowledge and experience they have gained while pursuing their articleship. It also provides companies a look at the conceptual clarity of their articles.

ICAI Articleship Exam: Syllabus

There is no strict syllabus for the articleship assessment test but here are some topics that the questions will be based on. 

For the first-year articleship exam

  • Accounting and Auditing – 50 marks
  • Optional Module – 25 marks (Direct Tax, Indirect Tax, or Internal Audit) 

The total weightage of the exam is 75 marks. The format of the questions will be MCQ. There will be no negative marking. 

For the second-year articleship exam

  • Accounting & Auditing and Corporate Law – 50 marks
  • Optional Module – 50 marks 

Students must choose two of the following modules each containing 25 marks weightage. 

  • Direct Tax and International Taxation
  • Indirect Tax
  • Internal Audit

The total weightage of the exam is 100 marks. The format of the questions will be MCQ. There will be no negative marking.

ICAI Articleship Exam Fee

If the student is appearing for the articleship assessment test for the first time then he does not have to pay any fee for the exam. But in case of re-attempts a nominal fee will be charged. 

ICAI Articleship Exam Registration

ICAI releases a registration window for the students who wish to register for the articleship assessment test. Students must register within the given registered window.

After registration, students will be assigned a test date and time. Admit cards will also be provided on this portal. You will be allotted an exam center and your test will be held online. While registering, choose the center closest and most convenient for you. 

CA Articleship Exam Results

Articleship exam results are declared after a week from the exam date. To check results students can visit ICAI official website and log in. 

In your result, you will receive grades. The grading system is as follows.

Grade A: 80% and above
Grade B: 60% and above
Grade C: 40% and above
Grade D: below 40 %
