CA Intermediate Result: How to Check It, Marksheet and Pass Certificate

This guide covers the Intermediate level only. For the Final level, see the CA Final result guide.

When the next CA Inter result is due

The September 2026 Intermediate exam was scheduled for 1 to 12 September 2026, and ICAI's guidance notes for it expect the result in October 2026, on caresults.icai.org. Watch icai.org for the exact date: for the January 2026 exam, ICAI announced on 2 March 2026 that the result would come by the afternoon of 8 March.

Recent Intermediate results were declared on these dates:

The next exam is in January 2027: Group I on 2, 4 and 6 January and Group II on 8, 10 and 12 January (ICAI announcement, 23 September 2026). Exam forms for it can be submitted on eservices.icai.org from 3 to 16 November 2026, or until 19 November with a late fee.

How to check your CA Inter result

1. Open ICAI's result site, caresults.icai.org. ICAI hosted the January 2026 results on icai.nic.in instead, so use the link in ICAI's result-day announcement.
2. Under "Check results", click Intermediate Examination. If you are a unit candidate (you passed a group under an earlier Intermediate syllabus), click Intermediate Examination – Units instead.
3. Fill in the 6-digit roll number and the registration number.
4. Copy the characters from the image, which ICAI uses to block automated requests, and submit.
5. Your marks and result appear on screen. Save or print the page for your records.

Without both numbers you can't see the result; there is no look-up by name. If you have misplaced your registration number, it is on the admit card you printed from eservices.icai.org (the guidance notes ask candidates to check it there).

Your CA Inter marksheet (statement of marks)

The result page is not your marksheet. ICAI sends a printed statement of marks by post soon after the result; if it hasn't reached you within 4–5 weeks, write to exam.dmsinter@icai.in (Guidance Notes, September 2026). You don't apply or pay for it: ICAI's FAQs on mark sheets (2019) say it is sent free of cost to everyone who appeared in at least one paper.

What the marksheet shows

• Marks in each paper of the group or groups you sat, and the result of each group.
• Papers 3 and 6: Taxation and Financial Management and Strategic Management are written in two answer books each (one per section), but the statement shows one consolidated mark per paper. Each counts as a single paper for passing and exemptions.
• "#" next to a paper's marks: you scored 60% or more in that paper but did not pass the group, so the paper is exempt in the next three exams. The group's result then reads "UNSUCCESSFUL-EX" (Guidance Notes, September 2026).
• A footnote "Passed under Regulation …": according to ICAI's FAQs on mark sheets (2019), this marks candidates who passed both groups by reaching 50% across the two groups taken together rather than in each group. Both routes are a pass.

Lost marksheet, errors and DigiLocker

• Duplicate: apply online under Post Examination Services on eservices.icai.org. The fee is ₹100 for each mark sheet, with ₹40 postage per application, and ICAI processes a complete request within 21 working days. Intermediate duplicates are handled at exam.dmsinter@icai.in (ICAI procedure page, updated 9 July 2024).
• Wrong name or registration number: send the original mark sheet, with a copy of your student registration letter, by Speed Post to the Director (Exams), ICAI Bhawan, Indraprastha Marg, New Delhi 110002. Your name is printed as it appears on that registration letter.
• DigiLocker: ICAI's DigiLocker facility, launched in December 2020, covers documents such as mark sheets and certificates of passing (ICAI press release of 23 December 2020).

CA Inter pass certificate

• Who gets one: only candidates who have passed both groups, in the same session or in different ones. Passing a single group does not earn a certificate (ICAI FAQs on pass certificates, 2019).
• When: ICAI issues it within 60 days of the result. If 8 weeks go by without it, email exam.dmsinter@icai.in (Guidance Notes, September 2026).
• Distinction: clearing the whole Intermediate exam at one sitting with 70% or more of the total marks gets "passed with distinction" written on the certificate.
• Duplicate: ₹200, again with ₹40 postage, applied for online. You also post a printout of the request and an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper by Speed Post (ICAI procedure page).

Passing marks for CA Inter

ICAI's FAQs on the New Scheme (Q 3.13) list six Intermediate papers of 100 marks each:

Each group of 300 marks is passed at one sitting with no paper below 40 and a group total of 150 or more (ICAI FAQs, Q 3.18). If you write both groups in the same session, there is a second route: no paper below 40 across all six, and 300 out of 600 overall, even if one group's total falls short of 150. You can also pass the two groups in different sessions.

A score of 60 or more in a paper of a group you failed (after sitting all three of its papers) is carried forward for the next three exams, marked "#" on the marksheet. In those exams you resit only the other papers and need 40 in each, with the group's total, including the carried-forward marks, at 150 or more. If you haven't cleared the group by the end of those three exams, you can opt for a permanent exemption, but each remaining paper then needs 50 (ICAI FAQs, Q 3.19). CA Inter pass percentage

ICAI gives the pass percentage of each group in its result-day press release. These are the three most recent Intermediate exams:

Figures in brackets are passed / appeared, from ICAI's press releases of 24 June 2026, 8 March 2026 and 3 November 2025. The "Both groups" column includes only candidates who wrote both groups in that session.

The first rank in May 2026 went to Shardul Shekhar Vichare of Dombivali with 531 out of 600 (88.50%); ICAI's Annexure B to the press release lists the top three.

Merit list and rank certificate

To see whether you made the all-India merit list, use the "Check merit list" link for the Intermediate Examination on caresults.icai.org; it asks only for your roll number. ICAI awards rank certificates down to the 50th rank, and only to candidates who cleared the exam at one sitting, without relying on an earlier exemption in any paper, with an aggregate of 55% or more (Guidance Notes, September 2026).

Verification and certified copies

After the result you can ask ICAI to recheck your answer books (verification) or to send you scanned copies of them (certified copies). Both requests are made only online, from your dashboard on eservices.icai.org:

The lower fees apply to applications made after the January 2026 results (ICAI announcement, 18 December 2025). The deadlines are from the September 2026 guidance notes, and the May 2026 window from ICAI's notice for that exam.

Verification does not re-mark your answers. ICAI checks that the answer book is complete and looks for answers left unmarked, totalling mistakes and marks wrongly copied to the cover page (FAQs on verification, 2019); the guidance notes rule out revaluation. Your marks can go down as well as up, and if they change, the verification fee is refunded automatically. Don't hold back your next exam form while you wait: ICAI gives no extension for pending verifications, and it refunds the new exam fee if verification turns a fail into a pass (FAQs, 2019).

Certified copies of answer books

Asking for copies also gets those papers verified, because ICAI runs the same checks before sending them, so a separate verification request for the same papers isn't needed. The ₹100 fee is not refundable. If the copies reveal a discrepancy of the kind verification covers, fill in ICAI's discrepancy report format and email it to inter4@icai.in within one month of the copies being sent (FAQs on verification, 2019).

What to do after the CA Inter result

• Cleared both groups: do the four-week ICITSS course, then start your 2-year practical training (ICAI FAQs, Q 5.1 and 5.2). Our CA articleship guide covers registration, leave and stipend. Registration for the Final course is open to you from now on (Q 4.1).
• Cleared one group: sit the other group in a later session; Intermediate exams are held in January, May and September (Q 3.9). Articleship has to wait until both groups are cleared. Your Intermediate registration is valid for 5 years and can be revalidated once for 5 more (Q 3.20).
• Failed a group with "#" papers: those marks are carried forward for the next three exams, so put your effort into the papers you still have to clear.
