CMA Intermediate

CMA Inter Result: Passing Rules, Pass Percentage and What Comes Next

The CMA Intermediate result is declared by ICMAI on its website, group by group. To pass a group you need at least 40% in each paper and 50% in the aggregate of that group at one sitting. In the June 2026 term, 19.68% of candidates who sat both groups passed both. That figure comes from ICMAI's press release on the June 2026 results, published in August 2026.

CMA Intermediate result announcement

This guide covers Intermediate only. For the other levels, see the CMA Foundation result and the CMA Final result.

How CMA Intermediate is passed

Intermediate has two groups of four papers each (Group I: Papers 5–8; Group II: Papers 9–12). See CMA exams for the paper list. ICMAI's regulations (Regulation 41) set these rules:

You sat… You pass if you get, at one sitting…
One group At least 40% in each paper of that group and 50% aggregate across its four papers
Both groups At least 40% in each paper and 50% aggregate across all eight papers together

Scoring 60% or more in a paper of a group you did not pass. The regulations allow that paper to be exempted in your later attempts. If you also scored at least 40% in the group's other papers, you can carry those marks forward. ICMAI can change pass marks and these benefits, so check the rules in the examination notice for your term.

What the pass-percentage categories mean

ICMAI reports Intermediate results in four categories. They are easy to misread:

  • Group I only: candidates who sat only Group I, and the share who passed it.
  • Group II only: the same for candidates who sat only Group II.
  • Passed in either one group: candidates who sat both groups but passed just one of them.
  • Passed both groups: candidates who sat both groups and passed both, which completes Intermediate.

How to check your CMA Inter result

  1. Go to ICMAI's website, icmai.in, on the day results are announced.
  2. Open the results link for the Intermediate examination of your term.
  3. Enter your identification number, as asked on the results page, and download your result or marksheet.

ICMAI has rebuilt its website, and older direct links to the results page no longer work, so start from the home page.

Keep a copy of your result. You need your group status and marks when you register for Final or plan your next attempt.

Rank list, answer books and verification

  • Rank holders: ICMAI publishes a list of top rank holders with the results.
  • Certified copies and verification: ICMAI lets candidates apply for certified copies of answer books and for verification of marks within a set period after the result, for a fee. The window and the fee are given in ICMAI's notice for each term. Apply early, because late applications are not accepted.

After your result

  • Passed both groups: you can move on to CMA Final. See CMA registration for how to register, and plan for the Final groups.
  • Passed one group: you only need to clear the other group. Check whether any paper qualifies for the 60% exemption described above.
  • Did not pass: look at your paper-wise marks. A paper above 60% may be exempt next time. Practise with CMA Inter question papers for the papers you lost marks in.
