CS Professional Module 1

CS Professional Module 1 consists of 3 papers that are to be attempted either individually or together with Module 2 and Module 3 (also consisting of 3 papers) depending upon a student’s preference or preparation. CS Professional exams are held twice in a year, once in the month of June and once in the month of December. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India is the professional body that holds the examination.

 

Eligibility Criteria for CS Professional Module 1

A candidate wanting to register for CS Professional examination must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Candidate must be 17 years old or above
  • He/she must have passed class 12th in any discipline except fine arts from a recognized board or university
  • He/she must have cleared CS Executive examination (both modules) held by The Institute of Company Secretaries of India
  • Graduates and Post Graduates who have also cleared CS Executive (both modules) held by The Institute of Company Secretaries of India

 

When and how to apply?

A Candidate is required to register himself for the course of CS Professional on the official website of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). For registration he/she will have to fill out an application form, upload required documents and pay a registration fee.

 

To register for CS Professional Module 1

  • Visit the official website of ICSI https://www.icsi.edu/home/
  • Click on “Online Services”
  • Choose “Register for CS Course”

 

Registration Fee

  • Registration fee for CS Professional exam is Rs.12,000/- (Rupees Twelve Thousand Only) per appearance.
  • Examination fee for CS Professional module 1 is Rs.1,000

CS Professional Module 1 Subjects and Syllabus

CS Professional module 1 consists of 3 papers which are mentioned below along with topics to be covered and their weightage in the exam.

 

Paper 1: Governance, Risk Management, Compliances and Ethics Constitution of India

  • Part A: Governance 50%
  • Part B: Risk Management 20&
  • Part C: Compliance 20%
  • Part D: Ethics and Sustainability 10%

Paper 2: Advanced Tax Laws

  • Part A: Indirect Taxes 70%
  • Part B: Direct Tax and International Taxation 30%

Paper 3: Drafting, Pleadings and Appearances (One Part)

  •  Judicial & Administrative framework
  •  General Principles of Drafting and relevant Substantive Rules
  •  Secretarial Practices
  •  Drafting and Conveyancing relating to Various Deeds and Agreements
  •  Drafting of agreements, documents and deeds
  • Pleading, Art of writing opinions
  • Appearences and Art of Advocacy

Oral Coaching

Any student pursing certification in CS, preparing for its courses, is required to undergo complete coaching for the respective course. Oral coaching refers to going to the institute for classes and pursuing your course. For his/her oral coaching, a student can take admission in regional council or chapter or any other recognized oral coaching center.

For the professional program, 40 classes of 2 hours for each subject are compulsory.

 

15 Month of Management Training

After completing CS Executive exam, a candidate is required to undergo 15 months of management training under a company secretary or a company, before he/she can sit for CS Professional examination. This training includes 25 hours of Professional Development Programme (PDP).

 

Passing Criteria

After giving CS Professional exam, candidates can check results once ICSI has announced them on their official website. A candidate is required to obtain 40% marks in each paper and 50% marks in aggregate to successfully pass this level.

 

After CS Professional Module 1

A student who has successfully cleared all 3 papers of CS Professional Module 1 in adherence to the passing criteria mentioned above, can appear in Module 2 and Module 3 in the forthcoming attempt and if he has already cleared those as well, He is entitled to be addressed as a qualified company secretary.
